Project Guidance

Frequently asked questions.

Practical answers for planning custom tin packaging, checking tooling options and preparing a useful RFQ.

Every project is assessed against its dimensions, structure, printing, accessories, quantity and target timing. These answers explain the process without replacing project-specific confirmation.

Starting a Project

What should I provide when starting a custom tin project?

Share the intended product or application, estimated quantity, target size or a Ferostar product reference, preferred structure, printing or finish requirements, accessories, expected delivery timing and any available artwork or reference files.

Is there a standard minimum order quantity?

Order quantity is assessed against the tin size, tooling, printing, structure and packing requirements. Include your estimated quantity in the RFQ so the sales team can confirm a suitable production approach for your project.

Can I begin with an existing Ferostar product?

Yes. If a listed product is close to your intended size or structure, include its product reference in the RFQ. The team will confirm the tooling match and the next sampling or customisation steps.

Tooling & Sampling

How does existing-tooling matching work?

Ferostar maintains approximately 3,000 tooling sets and operates its own toolroom. The team compares your target dimensions and structure with available tooling before confirming whether an existing profile can support sampling.

What happens if existing tooling does not match?

Ferostar can assess custom tooling and arrange in-house toolmaking. Feasibility, cost and timing are confirmed only after the dimensions, structure and production requirements have been assessed.

How does sampling connect to production?

After specifications and tooling are confirmed, design and sampling are prepared for customer review. Material preparation, printing and production proceed after sample approval and project confirmation.

Printing, Finishes & Structures

Which printing and surface finishes are available?

Available options include CMYK and spot-colour printing, gloss or matte varnish, spot UV, metallic and specialty inks, specialty coatings, holographic effects, embossing and relief. Printing is completed by a long-standing printing partner with on-site design support.

Which tin structures and accessories can be assessed?

Common formats include round, square, rectangular and special-shaped tins. Lid and accessory options include slip, hinged, sliding, screw and flip lids, plus windows, handles and locks. Inserts may use plastic, paper, EVA or foam.

Manufacturing & Quality

Where are the tins manufactured?

Ferostar's primary manufacturing operation is in Huizhou, Guangdong, China. Except for printing completed by a closely partnered supplier, can-making and tooling work are organized and completed by Ferostar.

How are quality checks and traceability handled?

Professional personnel carry out manual inspection and retain related inspection records. Basic traceability is organized by production time and batch, allowing records to be checked against the relevant raw-material batch and original supplier.

Delivery, Files & Communication

What is the usual production lead time?

Delivery is usually 25–30 days after the deposit is received. The confirmed schedule depends on tooling, sampling, printing, material preparation and production planning. Expedited lead times can be assessed for each project.

Which reference files can be uploaded?

The RFQ accepts PDF, JPG or JPEG, PNG, WebP, DOCX and XLSX files. You may upload up to five files, each no larger than 10 MB, with a combined attachment limit of 50 MB per enquiry. For another format or a larger file, contact the sales team to arrange a suitable transfer method.

When should I expect a response?

We aim to respond within two hours during business hours (excluding the lunch break), or within one business day at other times. Business hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–12:00 and 13:30–17:30 China Standard Time.
